Nicholas Fangman Nic's News

Our son, Nic was born at 26 wks. Nic only weighed 1lb 8oz and was 11 .3 inches long.

Nic was born with undeveloped lungs and he was not able to breathe on his own. He also developed a hernia. These things are very common for babies born this early.

For the next 4 months Nic had iv's, steroids, a tube down his throat to breath, different breathing machines, a feeding tube down his throat, morphine, methodone, nitric gas, blood transfusions, among many other procedures.

I could not believe a body so little could tolerate all of the things that it had went thru. Even after being told Nic wasn't going to make it and there was nothing more they could do, he found strength and was able to keep going.

We were told Nic would eventually need a trach and a gtube. When Nic got big enough he was moved to Omaha Childrens Hospital and that is where he is currently and will be until he goes home.

Nic had his trach and gtube put in and soon after that had surgery to fix his hernia.

Unfortunate Nic's lungs are still very sick and have gotten worse. The Dr.s are currently trying different ways to help his lungs but have not been able to succeed yet.
