Nicolas Elijah was born on May 31, 2008 with severe Shone’s complex, which includes coarctation of the aorta, pulmonary stenosis, ASD, and VSD. He has also been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and has suffered from immune system and blood clotting issues. He has undergone 4 open heart surgeries, 12 heart caths, and 2 eye surgeries. His journey continues as he will need ongoing care to maintain and replace his artificial valve and monitor narrowing of his blood vessels.

Two days after his birth the doctors gave us the news of his condition in a private conference room. They said it was very serious and they could not even promise his survival. As we broke down the doctors left the room and gave us some time alone. In brokenness we cried out to God and prayed that He would not only allow us to accept this trial but that He would use it to glorify Himself. We have seen Nicolas grow up to be a smart, kind, and compassionate young man. His life has impacted many people and he is a joy to be around. We pray that his story has and will continue to encourage people to see that God is faithful in the midst of suffering and His grace is more than sufficient in our times of need.
