On Saturday, February 20th, as Nick was getting ready to take William to soccer, he had a seizure. In addition to the seizure, he fell and hit his head. Nick took a ride in the ambulance and was given several tests including a CT Scan and two different types of MRIs. The tests revealed a large mass on his temporal lobe. Nick had a craniotomy on March 30th. The surgery removed 99% of the tumor. He then got a staph infection and had a washout procedure. After being at home for only 1 day, he went back to the ER and was admitted for hydrocephalus. They tried a lumbar drain and then a ventriculostomy, but ended up having to put in a shunt to control swelling and his cerebrospinal fluid levels. He has been home from the hospital for a couple of weeks after his last 17 day ICU stint and has now started both radiation and oral chemo for anaplastic ogliodendroglioma at Roger Maris in Fargo.
