Early Friday morning , July 20th , our worst nightmare became our reality. We received a knock on our front door from the police letting us know that Nick had been in a serious car accident and we should get to the hospital ASAP. Once we arrived we learned that Nick had hit a concrete barrier and it sent his car airborne and on the way down smashed into a steel pole. The jaws of life extracted him from the car and sadly he has suffered a serious head trauma. He has been in the ICU in VERY CRITICAL condition since 3:00 am on July 20th. Nick is sedated to remain comfortable (good ole Propofal and Fentanyl). Occasionally, they lower the sedation and put him on a “sedation vacation” to see how he will react and usually he has quite a bit of movement which We have nicknamed the Michael Jackson. We believe this movement is a good thing! He is on a Ventilator to help with breathing and has a feeding tube for hydration. He has an ICP Drain in the top of his head to release the blood and pressure that builds up in his head. Sunday, July 22nd they found a blood clot in his right thigh so yesterday a filter was put into his groin. Nick’s vitals are good and he remains stable! He is strong and he is young (23 years) And we know he will continuing fighting!💪🙏🏻 The plans for the end of the week include removal of ventilator. A trach will be put in as the ventilator causes scaring etc and not good to be in for a long time. They also hope to remove the drain. All of these events are stressful to Nick so we need prayers that he body responds to their removal. The doctors and nurses have been fabulous and we are blessed beyond our imagination at the love and support our family and friends have given to us by their visits, food, flowers, balloons , gift cards, help with anything we need!!Nick Has an amazing group of guys from lifelong friends to fraternity brothers that have been by his side since day 1. Special thanks to some very special Friends from his Delta Chi Pledge class that helped move everything out of his apartment tonight as his lease ends. We are asking for prayers to heal our precious son! He is and always has been the best big brother and son! We are desperately needing him to complete our broken and heart broken family!! We also ask for prayers for Libby, Davis, Brent & myself. Thank you all so much! The Coopers
