Welcome to our site designed to provide John’s friends, family and colleagues with news of his ongoing struggle with brain cancer. Most of you know that John was diagnosed with a grade 2 astrocytoma tumor six years ago. An operation back then removed as much of the tumor as was possible but it started growing more aggressively last year and it was treated with radiation and a chemotherapy drug . About a month ago his doctors found evidence of two new tumors in other areas of his brain and performed a last-minute operation on one of them. The other is very small but not operable. Unfortunately these new tumors are grade 4 glioblastomas, which are very fast-growing and aggressive.
John was recovering slowly but last weekend he went into a steep decline and was admitted to Sloan Kettering in New York City. They are still performing and analyzing tests. We are hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. Ida and Willa have displayed amazing stoicism throughout this entire ordeal. Ida and our son-in-law Sean have been at the hospital all day, every day. Willa is at home working and taking care of our dog Asta.
He will probably be released tomorrow so that he can begin another round of radiation and chemotherapy drugs as soon as possible.
I will provide updates about John’s condition and prognosis as things become clearer.
