Welcome to this  Caring Bridge website. I am using it to keep family and friends updated  on Jeff's recovery; texting and calling all of Jeff's fans is exhausting!   I am also using this site so Jeff can be reminded that I was actually here helping him along!

Jeff had surgery Wednesday, September 13 to remove a mass from the Occipital Lobe of his brain.  Dr. Harrin, Jeff's surgeon, removed the entire mass (which was the size of a golf ball). After a preliminary frozen biopsy, Dr Harrin  diagnosed Astrocytoma.  We will not know the grade of this cancer for 7-9 days after a more in depth lab analysis is performed. Prior to the surgery, Jeff lost 30% of his peripheral vision due to the tumor. 

The surgery went well-the Dr. did discover Jeff's brain in case any one was wondering. Jeff is recovering remarkably well from his brain surgery, needed little pain medication and appreciated the latte I brought this morning. He is due to leave ICU and go to the main floor  of the hospital today in  Lewis Gale Hospital, in Salem, VA . He requests no visitors.  Jeff  is expected to spend about 5 days on the post surgical floor. 


The future plan is for Jeff to come to Vermont and receive treatment at the University of Vermont Cancer Centre; he will be closer to Alec, in Ottawa, and in the north, eh?
