Hi everyone. Most of you know Nelson's journey so far. But, for those of you that are new, here is the short version. Nelson was having a flare up of his ulcerative colitis and had a colonoscopy end of September. It was clean for cancers. They found that his Whitehall count and hemoglobin were very least w and referred him to a rheumatologist. Over a month of blood tests and a bone marrow and he was found to have myelodisplastic syndrome. Because of genetic markers, Dr. Dolan is treating it as 1st stage leukemia. She had schedule him for chemotherapy to start on 11/28/16. Unfortunately, he caught a cold the week before Thanksgiving and ended up admitted to the ICU at VA Hospital BayPines for pneumonia/pleurisy. He has been on very strong antibiotics, antifungals and 02 since admission.
