Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On September 5th, 2017, Nathan was working his job with the City of Fremont, picking up roadside brush and feeding it into a wood chipper on a trailer being pulled by a city truck.  He was hit by a car and pinned between the car and the wood chipper, crushing his legs.  After being trapped for more than an hour, emergency crews were able to free Nathan and he was flown by Aero Med to Spectrum Butterworth in Grand Rapids.  After several weeks of surgeries and complications including a blood clot in his lung and aggressive treatment for fast growing infection in his legs, it ultimately became necessary to do a bilateral (double) amputation of his legs just above the knees.  After over two months hospitalized at both Butterworth and Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, 18 surgeries and lots of physical and occupational therapy, Nathan is finally home and undergoing outpatient therapy as he continues to heal and work towards being fitted for prosthetics.

As a family we remain grateful for all of the prayers and support we have received, and we couldn't be more proud of Nathan.  He has handled all of this with grace, humor, faith and humility.  It's a long road ahead, but we can't wait to see all he is going to do in life, and how he will use this to impact others in a positive way.
