Welcome to Natalie's Journey! This site was created for the purpose of sharing details of my mother's journey during her battle against cancer.
As some of you may know, my mother has been battling cancer for many many years. Recently, her doctor's noticed a new form of cancer appearing in her body known as Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). MDS is a form of cancer that affects the production of healthy Red Blood Cells, White Blood Cells and Platelets. Due to the advanced stage of this disease, doctor's have determined that my mother will require a bone marrow transplant. Like organ transplants, this is a lengthy and risky procedure as it takes the right donor match along with time for the body to accept the donation. Luckily for us, I have been selected as her donor match for this procedure. Over the next few weeks, mom will undergo a full physical to ensure she is healthy enough for a transplant followed by several rounds of intense chemotherapy and radiation. This will all lead up to the big day: October 20. After the transplant is over and the doctors release her from the hospital, she will be staying at the Hope Lodge, near Northside Hospital, for some time as she adapts to her new life.
We are so blessed to be supported by great family and friends who are all asking how they can help; and at this time, we are in desperate need of your prayers. As you may have gathered, mom has a long and tough road ahead of her. We are always amazed by her strength and resolve to face all of the challenges she has faced thus far. Now we are asking for you all to join us in prayer for her journey. I will frequently update this site with news so everyone can keep informed.
