Natalie is having her spine fused on Wednesday June 5th because she has a severe case of Scoliosis. What this means they will take two titanium rods on either side of her spine to force her spine straight.  The rods will sit just below her shoulder, and a bit above her hips. Her curve started out at a 50 something degree curve (this was in September). That much of a curve was surgical. She had just started the sixth grade, and the doctors told us she would be down for a while. It was because of the recovery time that made us decide to wait for summer. She got fitted with a brace that she wore 18 hours a day (she even slept in it). She also had physical therapy in Portland a few times a month. In November her curve was at a 63 degree curve. Last check a couple weeks ago, her curve was at 70 degrees and she had lost some height. Now it is time to fix it.
More than likely, she will need surgery/surgeries as she grows. We are grateful for all of the support. It’s good to know everyone is in Nats corner.
