Nancy was admitted to the hospital on Friday, September 25th with difficulty breathing, and transferred to the ICU on Saturday with very low oxygen saturation and pneumonia in both lungs. On Sunday, the doctor felt it was necessary to intubate her to maintain the necessary oxygen levels and try to give her lungs some rest.
After several medical tests and evaluations from her pulmonologist and nephrologist, she has been diagnosed with Cutaneous small-vessel Vasculitis (CSVV), an auto-immune disease that can attack the lungs and kidneys. She is undergoing several rounds of plasmapheresis, which replaces her blood plasma with fresh donor plasma to help eliminate the antibodies that are causing the inflammation in her lungs. She is currently in critical condition and remains on the ventilator and under sedation.
