Hello all!


I want to catch you up on some news...

I found out last Friday (11/10/17) that I have breast cancer. It is a very common form of breast cancer and it was caught early (thank goodness for 3D mammogram!) We have spent this past week gathering information and I now have a little more to share.

 

Here are the details that we know so far-

- there are two small tumors that are two different types of cancer but they are both stage 1A.

-both tumors are responsive to both estrogen and progesterone.

-one tumor does demonstrate HER2 which means that chemotherapy is necessary.


The plan-

-I will have an MRI on Tuesday morning which will allow the doctors to see the tumors more clearly and to make sure there isn’t anything else there.

-the type of surgery needed can then be planned- lumpectomy or mastectomy

-chemo will be before or after the surgery

-radiation is a possibility


I feel strong and very hopeful. I realize I’m in the calm before the storm, but I’m gearing myself up to charge through the storm. 😍

-If you see or read something funny, send it my way. I’ve always heard that laughter is the best medicine so I plan to laugh my way through the next 6 months.

-in the past I’ve often wondered what to say to someone dealing with a crisis. Just in the last week I have learned that it turns out it doesn’t matter what you say! Just reaching out, even just a quick message saying hello, lets me know that I’ve got your support and that you are thinking about me. I might not be able to respond to each message but I will read each one.

Bob and the kids seem to be doing well. John flies home on Tuesday and we are looking forward to several days just being together and focusing on our many blessings!
