Nancy Racine

Hello! We’ve decided to set up a Caring Bridge website to keep family and friends updated. As most of you know, Nancy was first diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in June 2014 and after 6 months of intense treatment, she was in remission for nearly 2½ years. A few months ago, some of her healthy blood counts started to drop, and after multiple visits to the Oncologist this summer and consideration of our treatment options, we decided to pursue a bone marrow transplant at Froedtert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

Although family members were tested, no one was a good match. However, a new potential donor joined the international bone marrow registry in the past two years and has agreed to donate! She is a perfect match, which immensely increases our chances of success. We know she’s 29 and we’re pretty sure she lives in Europe, but she is a complete stranger to us -- we are so grateful for and humbled by her selfless act. 

On Wednesday, September 6, Nancy “moved” to Wisconsin for the next few months, where she’ll be living in the Coach House behind Stacy & John's house. A PICC line was placed on the 6th and a week of Chemo was started the next day. The transplant is scheduled for Wednesday, September 13. Amazingly, this will be done on an outpatient basis, with daily visits to the hospital for a full month. We’ll plan to post routine updates here.
