*** Please note this site is not a donation site for Nana. Any donations made on Caring Bridge go towards powering their site.  I will say that Caring Bridge is a great site and has been a wonderful free tool for me to relay updates to you. However, I want you to be fully informed, and know that we do not have any donation site set up for Nana personally. ***

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Darla (a.k.a. Ma, Nana) has been fighting cancer for 15 years now. She continues to be a survivor, as well as a medical marvel to her doctors! We are so proud of her and the odds she has beaten all these years. She has a quiet courage and strength, which you cannot imagine.

Chemotherapy is a helper and a hinderer. It has kept her alive..... to get me married off, walk me down the aisle, (her favorite daughter - ok, only daughter :-) to see her grandchildren be born, and many other monumental family moments....but it is also a poison being put into her body for a long time now.  Chemo takes a toll , weakening so many parts of the body, while keeping the cancer at bay.

Lately, we have been seeing a decline in her mobility and increase in her pain. Nana's body is overwhelmed by the effects of years of chemo. This week enough was enough. She was admitted to Northern Dutchess Hospital for help with multiple problems and pain management.

She is such a good friend to so many people, always staying in touch and making sure her friends and family are alright, through email, text, phone calls, Facetime, cards, you name it.  My family always jokes about it - she will NEVER not answer the phone. Someone may need her!!! My husband likes to offer her $100 to not answer the phone when it rings, but she always rolls her eyes and answers anyway.  And sure enough, it is someone, needing a shoulder to cry on, advice, just to gossip, talk about soap operas, etc.....So - when people weren't able to reach her or talk to her, they started asking questions. Word spread and news got out she was hospitalized.  That's where this site comes in. I talked to her tonight and asked her permission to open this site. Her first response was, "I don't know why people care about what's going on with me???" I told her because she is loved by so many, she must not realize how many people she has affected and that love her. She seemed surprised by that, and agreed to let me do it. I think she thinks I'm crazy. But here we are....
