This winter has been a tough one for Nana Nancy. Right before the holidays she came down with a mystery virus that was NOT CoVid, NOT RSV and NOT the flu. It really threw her for a loop and had her bed ridden and in a lot of pain for a couple of long, lo-oong days.
She rallied for Christmas (and even got all her Xmas shopping done!) but continued to feel pretty fatigued. Then, on MLK Day, she was watching a movie with friends when she realized she could barely stand up to leave the auditorium. After struggling to her feet, she was so short of breath that she realized she’d have to go to the hospital.
She assumed her breathing issues were due to the Bronchiestasis that she’s been struggling with for awhile now. But once settled into her hospital bed, the doctors quickly diagnosed her with two new heart problems:
Atrial fibrillation
Left ventricular hypertophy
She’s now under the supervision of a great cardiologist but has been prescribed ALOT of new medications. In fact, it’s taking awhile to get the various doses calibrated correctly which, unfortunately, has lead to a couple different emergency room visits and hospital stays.
It’s been a hard way to start the new year but it’s also got Nana feeling grateful for all the supportive friends and family who’ve been by her side through the worst of it, especially Gretchen and Rita who accompanied her to the various emergency rooms, Karen who gave her the moral support to get demanding when the extra attention was warranted (😇) and Katya and Tim who’ve made her lunch times a lot more fun.
As of today (1/28) she’s back at Sibley Hospital, settled in to Room 532 and deep into “Trying” a sweet new series on Apple TV. She’s hoping to be released soon but, in the meantime, would love to hear from you at:
