Myles was born on Tuesday, March 14, five weeks premature. Since he was born, he has endured a variety of medical issues that he is currently fighting to overcome. In his short life, his doctors have discovered a mild congenital heart defect called an aortic coarctation that is not severe and does not require surgery at this point in his life. He also has had a platelet transfusion because he was struggling to maintain his platelet levels, has had trouble breathing on his own, difficulty keeping his milk down, some trouble eating, and major issues with fluid in his lungs due to a congenital defect of his lymphatic system.
He was born at Mayo's Methodist Hospital in Rochester, and is currently at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester in the NICU. Our goals are to eliminate the fluid in his lungs so that he can breathe on his own consistently, work on eating and grow as he is supposed to.
