Amanda Becker My Journey with BRCA1

First post: Apr 24, 2016 Latest post: Apr 27, 2018
Five years ago I found out that I carried the BRCA1 genetic mutation. This news changed my life forever. Although it has not controlled my life, it has caused a lot of anxiety and worry about my future. To take my risk of breast cancer down from 87% to less then 10%,  I will be having a prophylactic double breast mastectomy. The first surgery will happen on April 28th and then in July, I will have a second surgery to complete the reconstruction.

The past month has been an emotional roller coaster for me. I am hoping this site will provide me with an outlet to express some of those emotions and also help to educate people on what the BRCA1 gene mutation is. I welcome any prayers and support for me during this difficult time.
