I planned to enjoy a short trip to visit family in May 2012. Unfortunately, a different journey was taken.
Shortly after take-off from SJC I got ill on the flight. By the time the plane landed in MSP I was taken to Fairview Hospital where I presented septic. After 8 days of being in a coma, cardiac failure, respiratory failure and an emergency exploratory surgery I awoke to find my trip had been detoured.
From the excellent care at Fairview my journey moved to the bluffs of the Minnesota River at Martin Luther Manor's skilled nursing facility. Daily rehab occupied most my days. In early July I was discharged and headed west to Colorado and then a quick flight back home to California.
The road for recovery and healing has been slow, frustrating and joyful. I have really enjoyed the visits, calls, cards and words of encouragement as I continue down this path to full recovery.
