Welcome to our CaringBridge website.

A bit about how we are using the site:
Well Wishes: Please share memories of Monica.  We want to collect as many memories of her as we can as she has already changed so much.
Planner: Please communicate with Ashley Robson (see post from 8/22 if you are unsure of how to do this) regarding visits.  She knows Mom's schedule and we would like visitors to filter through her.

We appreciate your support and for sharing fond memories of Monica (Monie, Mona). Thank you for visiting. Here is Mom's story:

Monica was diagnosed with Bulbar Onset ALS  on June 11, 2021.  Her initial symptom of slurred speech began presenting in March of 2020, but it was difficult to determine whether her symptoms were attributed to tiredness from working in healthcare during a pandemic or something else.  Over the course of a year her speech became more affected and she developed significant gripping weakness in her hands.  She was referred to Neurology in January of 2021 and was not able to see a Neurologist until May and then after testing to rule out other potential sources of her symptoms, she was diagnosed.

She had continued to work even as speaking became harder and her energy decreased and did not leave work until July 6 of this year. Since then she has become very fatigued, swallowing has become even more difficult and her energy levels continue to decline, but she continues to press on.

She is an unbelievable woman. So full of grace and love. That will never change about her even as her body changes.
