October 10th, 2017 our lives changed forever. On that day my mom was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of bladder cancer. Plasmacytoid Carcinoma. Less than 1% of bladder cancer patients are diagnosed with this type.
Mom has endured multiple rounds of chemotherapy since then. If anyone can push through whatever they're up against, it's her. Some treatments were much harder on her body than others but she worked through it all. She finally got to ring the bell to end the rounds on February 22nd!! Right now she's enjoying some ill free days and still working as many hours as she can. We all know she doesn't sit still. Bless her heart is what my dad says!
March 13th is her next important day. That day surgery will happen at the University of Iowa with Doctor O'Donnell. He is nationally renown in the field of urologic cancer and my parents feel very secure in his treatment. My dear mother will have her bladder removed along with her uterus and at least one ovary to reduce the chances of finding this cancer in any other areas. There are a lot of unknowns until her pathology comes back a week following surgery. We encourage ALL of the love and light and prayers you can send her way. We will be updating this page during surgery and the following days so everyone can send their well wishes for her recovery.
For all of the wonderful things that have been done thus far, thank you. It's touched our family in so many ways that all lead to happy tears. My mom is amazing and we've always been a very close family. To see the outpouring of prayers, well wishes, dinners, cards and visits makes our cup full of love. THANK YOU.
