Starting her Freshman year at Metro High School was a big transition for Molly. She struggled academically and socially, and often complained of stomach aches and headaches. We attributed them to stress, mostly. Mid-January her complaint was a bit more specific, causing us to suspect appendicitis, so we visited our pediatrician who ordered an ultrasound. Well her appendix was just fine, but they found a 6 cm tumor sitting on her left kidney. We were sent directly to the Oncology Department at Children's hospital where they performed a CT scan to get a better look at the tumor.

First indications led Dr Huang to theorize that she has a pheochromocytoma, a tumor of the adrenal gland. Lab tests showed her hormones at normal levels, so that bumped this theory down the list. We will be meeting with a surgeon tomorrow to plan to remove the tumor so they can perform a biopsy and see exactly what we are dealing with.
