Twenty years ago Monica found out she had the BRCA1 gene that causes breast cancer.(among others). At that time she had an 86% chance of getting cancer in 5 years. She did what many thought was unthinkable- A prophylactic bilateral mastectomy which would bring her risk level to the general public. All her sisters have had breast cancer but she felt she beat it.

In the beginning of June she found out she does have breast cancer - which is extremely rare in hersituation. She has 5 months of chemo at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

Monica  is so thankful they have moved extremely fast to start beating this disease not to mention being at one of the top cancer centers in the nation. I can’t go wrong with them.

From Monica:
“I’m blessed to have family and friends that are so loving and supportive.  I know I have a long fight ahead of me but I’m ready.  I’ve always been the type of woman that wants the facts and then wants to get going to solve it right away. “

So welcome to all of you who want to come along for the ride!
