On Tuesday, April 12, 2022 our lives changed drastically. Our beautiful, wonderful, cheerful mom, wife, grandma, sister and friend, Missy Maese, suffered a heart attack caused by a brain aneurysm. This occurred, in true Missy fashion, while working with her beloved nonprofit, Growing Gardens. Thankfully the Growing Gardens team was fast acting and Missy was able to receive CPR and medical attention immediately. Missy was quickly taken to OHSU where the incredible neurological team was able to coil off the aneurysm in her anterior communicating artery. Missy is currently receiving world class treatment and care from the talented medical team in the neurological intensive care unit.
There have been many scans, tests and procedures done over the last 24 hours. Within that time Missy has already decided to kick the breathing tube (that’s our girl!) and although she has not gained consciousness, Missy has responded to painful stimuli (yeehaw sister!).
The next few weeks will be the most critical for Missy. She is currently considered high risk and in critical condition. Although they were able to coil off the aneurysm, a significant amount of blood still remains. It will take some time for this blood to naturally be absorbed back into her body. During that time, the risk for stroke and vasospasm will be high. A wonderful blessing is that Missy is a candidate for a clinical trial in which she could receive a medication that may help lower the risk of a vasospasm. If accepted into the trail she will have a 50% chance of receiving this medication starting tonight.
Our family would lovingly accept prayers for our wonderful Missy during this unthinkable and unimaginably difficult time.
I will update this page as often as I can. If you have any questions or would like to reach out to the Maese family, please do not hesitate to contact me, Melanie Maese, at 425-890-3589. Rebbecca Maese may also be reached at 503-936-0558.
