Madison was involved in a bad car accident on Sunday afternoon February 18 in the southern part of Currituck County. As you may know, she was airlifted to Norfolk General hospital where she was admitted suffering from a fractured skull, shatttered pelvis, broken femur and cuts and bruises. She was in critical condition upon arrival. Overnight Sunday she was stabliized sufficiently to allow the orthopedic surgeons to rebuild her pelvis during surgery on Monday morning. What a way to spend her 18th birthday.!! She was able to sleep most of Monday evening and night, as were her tired and stressed out parents...Although she still is having trouble keeping anything down due to nausea from the pain medicine she is stable and will start PT later today. (Tuesday, February 20) Doctors do not anticipate any action in regards to her fractured skull at this point. That could change if her brain swells but as of now her neurological tests are good.
Two other people traveling in her car were injured as well. Mimi’s boyfriend, Jonathan Gillette, is still in ICU a few doors down from her. He has a Careing Bridge site established. Jimmy Simmons, a good friend of both, was admitted and is also undergoing treatment at NGH.
We will continue to update everyone a couple of times a day on this page. Please keep all three kids in your thoughts and prayers.
