Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.
Since May of 2015, Mildred has been struggling to maintain her independence after she fell and broke 2 vertebrate. After 110 days in Rehab, she and Fred moved from their little house to Assistive Living at Salem Terrace. They both were happy to be living together for the past 8 months. They were given excellent care and won the hearts of many of the staff there. After getting the flu in April and being admitted to the hospital, she went to Rehab for about 50 days. Her progress was slow and her stamina to do transfers was not where it needed to be to return to assistive living. Mildred was moved to a South Roanoke Nursing Home on June 30, 2016. She was not thrilled to be moving here as she wanted to return back to Assistive Living with Fred Sr. Fred Sr. is hanging in there and has maintained his independent category in Assistive Living. He gets to meals and does his own medicine, bills, taxes, and independently arranges transportation to go see Mildred 6 days a week. He visits for about 4 hours but is starting to look ragged from all the travel. He is hopeful and asks for everyone's prayers. He is also looking to move by the end of July to the Virginia Veteran's Care Center in Salem. As things are changing daily, we decided to do this site so you can be updated about Mildred's progress. Fred Jr. has been in and out of Roanoke once or twice a week.
