On May 25 2016, Mike was diagnosed with cancer. It started in the urinary tract or bladder. Mike had treatment at Fairview Ridges in Burnsville Minnesota and also got additional opinions from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. As Mikes condition continued to decline from intense chemotherapy he traveled with his brother Danny and son John Wilkemeyer to Phoenix Arizona. He had further testing, research and advice on his cancer at the Cancer Center of America. He was informed that his cancer is Stage 4 and he would live maybe 9 months with treatment.Mike had treatment at the Cancer Center in Phoenix on October 12. While enduring cancer  Mike has had ongoing excruciating pain with multiple visits to the emergency room.  Mike has also lost over 100 pounds since his diagnosis.
He had another treatment on November 2.  He was admitted to Banner Regional Casa Grande Medical Center on November 13 with pneumonia symptoms and had a minor heart attack.
He is going to be released from the hospital this week and will be staying with friends in Casa Grande and will be returning to Minnesota at the end of the month depending on his strength.  When he returns home to Minnesota, he will be in a care center.
