On 2/23/21 Mike tested positive for COVID19 while spending a few weeks in Florida with Kathy escaping the brutal Michigan winter. Initially it presented with mild - moderate flu like symptoms which began to worsen and progressed significantly on Thursday into Friday resulting in being admitted to the hospital on Friday 2/26/21. He did receive an antibody infusion on the morning of 2/26/21 but unfortunately his condition rapidly deteriorated that afternoon and was advised by his doctor in Holland to go to the ER for an evaluation as his oxygen level (via pulse ox) was 87%.
Shortly after arriving he was admitted to the COVID unit at Advent Health-Celebration Campus in Celebration Florida (near Orlando). Since admission his oxygen has not shown any significant improvement on Heated High Flow Nasal Oxygen. He has been treated with Remdesivir, Anti-biotics, and Steroids in addition to the Heated High Flow Oxygen which he is now receiving 45Liters of 85% Oxygen. He will receive one more dose of Remdesivir on 3/2/21. Laying in the prone position (on his stomach) is helping, but is not very comfortable. Recovery will be a long distance swim not a sprint.
His sister Kathy from Seattle was here visiting when he got sick and his daughters Kristin and Sara flew down on Friday when he was admitted to the hospital. Kathy (wife), Kathy (sister), Kristin, and Sara are all here in Florida doing all we can to rally round and support him through this difficult journey. We covet your prayers for healing and comfort. We feel the love, prayers and support of many-but also feel overwhelmed at times. We will provide updates here daily as we are able.
