 It has been an extremely difficult last month in our family.  For those that may not know, Mike has recently been struggling with health issues.  After a clear bill of health back in April, we couldn’t understand where the stomach issues he was experiencing were coming from.  Tums became his good friend and the recliner was his place of choice each day after work.  He went to work each day, but couldn’t stay awake once he got home.  We thought working outside all day could be part of his fatigue, but when his appetite decreased and other symptoms started popping up, we knew it was time to visit his doctor again.  After a number of blood tests, an ultrasound and a CT Scan the doctor knew something wasn’t right and our journey began.  We were referred to a Gastroenterologist to work with us in determining what was going on with Mike.    During the next two weeks we had a number of doctor appointments and were in and out of the hospital for a variety of tests, procedures and even an ER visit was thrown in there.  We met with our oncologist, Dr. Siegel, on Monday, July 10 and we were completely surprised to learn that the scan showed a tumor on the head of the pancreas, shadows appeared in the liver and the lymph nodes were enlarged and that Mike did indeed have cancer.  Dr. Siegel explained to us that it is currently Stage II Pancreatic Cancer, but that may change.  We were given so much information that day and met a wonderful group of people that we will be working with throughout this journey.  Mike will be starting his first round of chemo on Monday, July 17.  I will continue to keep everyone updated on this site as his journey moves on.
