September 27th, 2019, Mike went in for lower abdominal pain. He had surgery at Williamson Medical Center to remove a lower section of his colon and lymph nodes. Tests revealed that it was colon cancer. In October 2019, Mike went to the Vanderbilt Oncology Clinic to start chemotherapy which was able to hold the cancer for a period of time. In the spring of 2020, CT scans showed the cancer continuing to grow and spread. In June, July and August, Mike underwent a more targeted approach to battle the cancer using aggressive medications for colon cancer that had matastasized to his liver and pelvic region. These medications were unable to hold the cancer back. We tried briefly to get into the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center for any available trials. Dr.'s concluded that all medical means to stop the cancer were exhausted. On October 15, 2020 Mike again underwent a light surgery to install an Aspira catheter in the abdomen to relieve the building fluids due to the liver unable to function.
