Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are so grateful to have your support...especially your prayers.  Mike retired from his position as the Head Football Coach at Collierville High School in December 2018 to deal with some of the side effects from his treatment for throat cancer.  Mike is the husband of Beth O'Neill.  He has 3 beautiful children - Brooke (33), Michael (28), and Mary Elizabeth (26).  And, he has two precious granddaughters, Mary Reagan (7), {who calls him G-Daddy}, Palmer(2), one loving son-in-law, Bowers (33) and beautiful daughter-in-law, Christ Picus O’Neill (27).  Mike was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the tonsil on October 18, 2017 with activity in his neck and tongue.  He had no evidence of cancer in June 2018.  And, as we face new developments found  in his lungs in February 2020- Mike won’t back down.  He is a fighter and found strength in Tom Petty's song, "I won't back down" during his treatment for throat cancer.  He often says, "I ask my players to play like their hair is on fire - so I must do the same and approach my battle with the same tenacity".  We know that God's timing is perfect, and we have put our trust in Christ.  His will is perfect, and we find strength in our faith and love in Jesus Christ.  Mike has commented often since we shared his diagnosis with the community that he can feel your prayers.  So, please don't stop praying for him!  Prayer warriors - we need you and you know who you are.  Many have asked us how you can help and this is the single best gift of love and support that he can receive.  So, please pray for him to forever be cancer free.  We have asked God to orchestrate our journey, to guide our medical team, and to align our wills to His holy will.  And, we have already experienced His presence.  Please check back often for updates.  And, thank you for your love and support!
