Welcome to Mike's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Monday, November 21, 2016 Mike had a stroke and was taken to the Intensive Care Unit at Georgetown Hospital  here in Washington DC.  It has affected his right side and although he understands what we say to him, he cannot speak.  He had a setback last Thursday when he developed pneumonia, which is has been the primary focus of treatment over the weekend. Today (Sunday) the pneumonia appears to be slightly better than yesterday, and we hope he will continue to respond to the antibiotics and other treatments. Once he gets the pneumonia under control, they will begin therapy and rehab for the stroke.  They anticipate Mike will be able to regain his speech as that portion of his brain was not affected, but this will require speech therapy and will take time. They are optimistic that he will be able to walk, probably with assistance (walker or cane).
