Mike was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia, called CMML, December 2014. His Birmingham Oncologist immediately referred him to MD Anderson since this type of cancer is so rare and aggressive. He made his first trip to Houston in January 2015. They began chemo and allowed him to get his treatments in Birmingham and come to MD Anderson every 6-8 weeks for testing. Over the last 6 months Mike has been having trouble recovering from his treatments and his health had started to deteriorate. He traveled to MD Anderson on April 9th to find out his cancer had progressed into Acute Leukemia and he only had a short time to live with no treatment. MD Anderson suggested he do an intense 30 day treatment to try to get in remission. This treatment started on April 12th.
