Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
We arrived on Oahu on 12/4 to spend the holidays with Chris and his family with the plans of remaining here until Wrigley‘a 2nd birthday on 2/1. Shane, Natalie and Sarah were also here from 12/3 through 12/22. We made some awesome family memories with beach time, watching surfing competition,  a luau, Pearl Harbor, watching Chris fly the Blackhawk and lots of family time.
Along with Mike’s many years of back problems he has also had years of high blood pressure, more years of uncontrolled than controlled.  On Friday 12/27 things were good, he walked to the park with the kids and his back tolerated the activity. On 12/29 he noticed he was sorta dragging his left foot, this has been a symptom related to his back problem. On 12/30 he was unable to control his left foot and Chris said either you show me you can walk or we’re going to the ER and the ER was the result.
Diagnosis was a stroke in the right hemisphere likely caused from the high blood pressure, no active bleeding was found, no clots and the area was small, the Dr described it like a bruise. The  only symptom at that time was the left foot weakness. He was admitted to the hospital on Oahu for 5 days and then transferred to Rehabilitation Hispital of the Pacific where he will be for 10 days to 2 weeks and the intense work started within minutes of arrival!
He will have therapy 3 hours a day with the staff only and then I will be included toward the end to learn how to continue rehab once we are discharged. The dr is very optimistic on a close to full recovery due to it being fairly mild.
He has his cellphone and he would love to hear from you by calls, texts or email also I’m sure some cards or mail would also make his day! The address is Rehab Hospital of the Pacific,  Room 204, 226 N Kuakini St, Honolulu, HI, 96817.
We certainly believe in the power of prayer and ask you all to include us in yours!
