Welcome to our CaringBridge website. The sole purpose of this site is to keep family and friends updated.  Thank you for visiting. For anyone new to Mike's Cancer story - here is a super abridged version.

Mike was diagnosed in Spring 2017 with Stage IV Colon Cancer. At that time he already had tumors in his liver. He had 6 rounds of chemo, a colon resection and liver resection, then 6 more rounds of chemo and was considered NED (No Evidence of Disease)! It was glorious.   After a while, the cancer came back in the liver (this is def the abridged version) and he had some procedures done and then went back on a different chemo.  After a few rounds showed that the cancer was not responding to that chemo, Mike entered an immunotherapy clinical trial at Hopkins. It became a full time job, Unfortunately, the results were not good. He stopped the trial a couple of weeks ago after discovering that the intense leg pain he'd been having for weeks was not from the Immunotherapy drugs but from bone mets in his femur.  The cancer progressed to his bone as well as his abdomen and he the liver mets have progressed in size.

Mike is currently recovering from surgery where he had a rod placed through his femur last week to prevent a fracture, Doctors are monitoring fluid build up in his liver that is likely caused by the cancer. He should be able to have it drained this week so we can head to the Shore on Saturday for a week long vacation of sun and sand and no Dr visits or hospital stays!!

As always, we have to thank so many of our friends for doing so much for us. Please know how grateful we are for the humongous things you do for us, and the really small, simple things that are hugely helpful and so appreciated! I will try to update this page fairly regularly but not with every detail. Thanks for reading! Love, Betsy
