Welcome to Mike's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.   As most of you know, Mike was diagnosed in Oct. 2007 with leukemia--specifically Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and has been playing it cool and fighting the disease like the tough guy he is for the past 8+ years.  However after a few rounds of chemotherapy, his rockstar doctor at The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital advised that clinical trials were the way to go.  So for the past several years, Mike has received some of the best, newest and smartest targeted treatments via clinical trials to continue to fight his cancer.  Some treatments worked well, some not so well.  But throughout it all, family and friends have rallied around providing kind thoughts, prayers, love and emotional support to boost Mike's spirits and remind him he's not in this alone.  We've been so blessed that he's been able to battle it and live a (relatively) normal life for so long.  We know others aren't always so fortunate.

So that brings us to now.  Despite all this fighting, the CLL is refusing to give up and after two disappointing rounds with the latest clinical trial drugs, Mike's oncologist advised he head to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance in Seattle to undergo a CAR-T cell transplant clinical trial where they essentially re-engineer his own stem cells and infuse them back into his body with the goal of attacking and killing the cancerous cells.  At the beginning of August, Mike and Sally headed out to Seattle to begin this trial.  Mike will be undergoing treatment for 8-12 weeks.  We are very hopeful that this therapy will be successful for him (and ultimately others with CLL).  We believe that God has opened this door and continues to walk every step with us.  We trust in His will and thank Him for His abundant blessings.
