Mighty Mike has been battling stage 4 lung cancer with metastasis in both lungs and his chest wall.   Countless scans, x-rays, ultrasounds, bloodwork, and other tests have been done so far to get that detailed of a diagnosis.  He has a brain MRI and PET scan on January 15th to determine if the cancer has spread anywhere else in his body (this type of lung cancer is common to spread to the brain).  The uncertainty, stress and worry is immense. 


His lung and chest wall continue to fill up with fluid and collapse his lung which he then has to be hospitalized each time to drain. He always feels much better after the fluid is removed. He had exploratory surgery on December 16th to biopsy samples in his lungs and super glue his lung to his chest wall so the lung stops collapsing every time the fluid returns to his lung/chest cavity.  


He has been on Short Term disability since early November when he had to quit working and his pay will soon be reduced to 60% of his normal pay as he transitions onto long term disability. We also just found out his surgeon is not in our insurance network, so our out of pocket costs will be exponentially greater than we originally anticipated. However, we love this surgeon that has come so highly recommended and we trust that he is our best care option for this next step on our journey, so we will stay with him and figure out how we will pay for all the additional expenses. We also are now in a new calendar year where all deductibles and coinsurance amounts have to be met again before insurance will pay any medical expenses.  We will do whatever is necessary to finally figure out everything that is wrong and what we need to do to beat it for as long as possible. 


We appreciate your prayers, support, encouragement and love for us through this difficult and tiring journey. God has us in His loving care which is giving us the courage and strength to face each new day. We know God has a plan for us through this extremely difficult journey and we trust He will guide us and Mike’s care teams to hopefully successfully treat the cancer to prolong his life as long as possible while keeping him as comfortable as possible.
