Micki and Bill were attending the Banff International String Quartet Competition when Micki had a heart attack on Saturday afternoon, September 3. She received excellent medical care from the local Banff EMTs and Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. After stabilization, she was transported by ambulance to the regional cardiac care center at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta. Again, she has received excellent care. She was examined and found to have several severe arterial blockages requiring immediate open heart bypass surgery. She had that surgery on Monday, September 5 and she is now starting the long road to recovery.

Today, Tuesday September 6, her breathing tube has been removed and she is able to move about and speak a little. Once today, when I wasn't there, she tells me they had her out of bed briefly. Her progress is steady, perhaps not as fast as we would wish, but steadily positive. She is asking for music and my task tonight after finishing this post will be to copy my music library from my phone to hers. She is ready to listen to some Beethoven string quartets! (The experience in Banff was really terrific, right up to Saturday afternoon!)

Special thanks go to our dear family member Sherry Primm, who has generously loaned me the use of her beautiful apartment in downtown Calgary for the time we are here. We expect to remain in Calgary at least another week and it will probably take us at least three days to get home once we leave here.
