Welcome to Michelle's CaringBridge website. We will be using this site to help keep family and friends updated on Michelle's Breast Cancer Journey.
A routine mammogram on September 26, 2017, started my journey. Multiple phone calls and a certified letter later I was headed back for multiple mammograms and an ultrasound of a small mass in my right breast. Unfortunately these screenings led me to a biopsy on October 23rd. During my biopsy the ultrasound tech noticed a second larger mass that had not previously been seen. It was decided that I would have a double biopsy. On October 25, 2017 I was received my biopsy results - the smaller original mass was benign BUT the larger mass found during the biopsy was cancer.
October 25, 2017 was the day I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma in my right breast.
On October 31st I met with my surgeon, Dr. Bumberry, to discuss my treatment options. Due to the nature of how my cancer was found my next step is to have an MRI with contrast to check for additional masses that may have not shown up in previous screenings. I have been matched up with my Cancer Nurse Navigator, Lynn, that will work with me throughout this journey.
