Welcome to Michelle's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.
Michelle is a free-spirited, independent, strong-willed woman who has done amazing things in her life, inspiring us all to take on new challenges. She brings joy to so many people with her wonderful smiles, giggles and most of all her razzing and teasing to get you to smile and enjoy life!
As many of you know Michelle has been dealing with dementia and has been slowing declining cognitively and physically.
Last weekend, our whole family was together in Cedar Rapids to have quality time with Michelle. The weekend was amazing and we have such a wonderful time - getting Michelle to giggle, smile, tease us, making her funny noises and even dancing with her in her wheelchair.
It is with a real heavy heart that we share with you that she has gotten progressively worse in the last couple of days. She had to move from getting hospice care at her group home to moving into a hospice house where they can give her care around the clock.
She had seizures Wednesday morning during which she couldn't swallow and had stopped breathing a couple of times. They were able to help her stabilize.
On Thursday her conditions worsened and she is not getting any food or liquids due to her difficulty in swallowing and the worry of most of it going in her lungs. Now the prognosis is days to live vs weeks.
Even though her conditions have worsen, she has alert time with her eyes open and sometimes even eyebrows raising, hand squeezing (one of our favorites) and mouthing words. She has been surrounded by love with visits from so many people who care for and about Michelle.
We will do our best to keep you updated on Michelle.
We are grateful for your support and love. Thank you for checking in on Michelle via the this website.
