August of 2000 was a life changing day for Michael.
He and a friend just finished watching a movie and were returning the DVD when a man, being chased by police, hit them at a high speed and pushed them sideways through the front yard of 2 houses and finally came to a stop next to the 3rd house missing it by inches.
Michael's friend Jennifer was killed instantly. Michael was in critical condition.
During the time in the ICU at HCMC in Minneapolis, MN Michael had several injuries that needed to be addressed. The urgent one was a mitral valve replacement. Michael received his new valve with the understanding that it would need to be replaced in 7 years. The next injury to address was the fact that he would most likely never walk.
All of this, of course, never stopped him or slowed him down. Michael continues his love of traveling, seeing and meeting new people and his love of helping people.
