Michael Shade Michael Shade's Recovery

First post: Jan 26, 2020 Latest post: Feb 1, 2020
On Thanksgiving Day, 2019, Mike had a small but catastrophic fall. Due to a pre-existing narrowing of his spinal column, his spinal cord was bruised in two places in his neck, and he was paralyzed from the chest down. He spent 20 days in the hospital waiting to be cleared for surgery, recieving the operation, and recovering from surgery. He recieved an extensive operation on his neck which involved removing the back of 4 vertebrae, then the surgeon essentially created a titanium neck. From the hospital, he was transferred to acute rehabilitation for 44 days, and from there was transferred to sub-acute rehabilitation due to insurance reasons.

Sarah and I will both be updating this site and are using this as a central place to put updates. You may notice that I say "Mike" and Sarah says "Dad," and we hope this is not too confusing. Utilizing this site will help the two of us to type updates once, without having to keep track of who has updated whom with what information.  We appreciate all of your concern, support, and prayers!
