Welcome to Mike's Caring Bridge site. We decided, as a family, that this would be the easiest way to keep our friends and family updated. For those who don't know, the night of Monday, September 11th, Mike suffered a stroke. (For any medical people: he had a M1 occlusion in his left middle cerebral artery.) He was taken to MUSC, a certified stroke center, where he received TPA and went to Interventional Radiology for a thrombectomy, all of which are measures to remove the clot from the artery in his brain which caused the stroke. The doctors were able to ward off the full effects of the stroke, as it would have lead to brain death in his entire left hemisphere left untreated. His doctors are hopeful for a full recovery over the next 6 or so months. We are still currently at MUSC, but he will be transferred to acute rehab in the next few days. We believe he will be in rehab anywhere from 2 weeks to a month. There he will receive intensive therapy working with speech, physical, and occupational therapists daily. Right now, Mom and I are needing help with meals and yard/house work, as we're spending our days at the hospital. Please continue to pray that he makes a full recovery! If you'd like to visit him, please schedule it with us! And thank you to everyone who has already been amazing to us this week. We couldn't get through this without all of you.
