Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On December 4th, 2018, Mike got the phone call we had all been waiting for: new lungs were in flight. Thankfully, he was already at University of Colorado Hospital being treated for edema, so all they had to do was prep him for surgery. Officially, the transplant was done on the early morning of December 5th, 2018. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned. After the transplant ,they could not get his bleeding to stop and they were giving him as much blood as he was putting out. Thankfully, the amazing team here at UCH were able to eventually stabilize him; but the shock from all the transfusions and initial surgery took its toll on his new lungs.

Today is December 22nd, and he still stable and starting to wake up. The doctors are not very optimistic that the new lungs are going to make it, so the plan is to get Mike healthy and strong so that he can be re-transplanted. Amy and I also believe in miracles and are still praying that these new lungs will bounce back so Mike doesn't have to go through another surgery.

We cannot thank our family and friends enough for all the prayers and support that they have given us. God knew Mike's journey and led him and us to Denver so that he could be under the care of this amazing staff and we could be looked after by an amazing group of friends.
