Welcome to Michael's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place so you can keep your finger on the pulse if you would like. Ok, that was Mike's comment, can't you tell?  :) Please share this site with those close family and friends who inquire about Mike.  I, Kelly Burgmeier, will likely be making most of the journal entries with Mike's approval as we find out new information.  We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.  I think pop-ups appear asking for donations as this is a free site if you are so inclined to support the site that is your choice we are not asking for donations.  Thank you for visiting.

Here's the long and short of it:
In September Mike was diagnosed with an ascending aortic aneurysm just a month after we were married.   We have been monitoring it.  His left ventricle is dilated & the aortic valve leaks due to the aneurysm. We have been waiting for the cardiovascular disease doctor to give us a plan before alerting or concerning others. As of Friday, December 29th, the numbers indicated we need to proceed in a "stately manner" to surgery.  The cardiovascular disease specialist is locating the best surgeon and developing plans to hopefully save his "pristine" valve and prevent damage to his heart. This would be the best plan, to repair the aorta, because replacing the valve would require blood thinners for the rest of his life. This will be major, open heart surgery with a lengthy recovery of 4 to 8 weeks, a year before he's back to normal.

We are so blessed that this was detected early & we can repair this otherwise healthy guy. Thank God.

We're asking for prayer for the right doctor & hospital to have an opening, for Mike to secure reliable help for work & for him to be as medically ready as possible so all bad habits are gone. I could use prayer to help him the best way possible while still looking out for our family & my students, also so I may fulfill my role as the 1st assistant for CEW weekend in March with my brother.
