December 9, 2021, the world changed completely for my my nephew Micah. He was taken to the Hanover ER due to severe headaches and nausea. Through a CT scan a mass was found on Micah's brain the size of an olive. This prompted an immediate transport to VCU Medical Center in Richmond for more medical testing and observation.
After an MRI, the surgeon determined the olive size mass was blocking brain fluid from draining into the spinal column. This was creating a build up of fluid and pressure on the brain. Micah was placed in the Pediatric ICU at VCU Medical Center and prepped for a procedure to drain this fluid. During the MRI a few additional small masses were discovered as well. He has since been involved in three separate brain surgeries/procedures for the proper draining of his CSF. Also, the masses in his brain were diagnosed as germinoma cancer. Micah is currently going through multiple rehabilitative actions, including chemotherapy and potential radiation.
