Merita Tillman

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. On February 13th, our beloved Merita, had a massive stroke. She was found in her home several hours later and rushed to Duke. Upon arrival, she was unable to move her right side at all and she was unable to speak. She has cerebral swelling and this is a continued concern. She is currently in the Duke Neurology ICU. Despite all of this, she seems to understand much of what we say and is trying very hard to talk and move. She is unable to speak or swallow well enough to eat on her own, but anyone who knows her knows she she is one tough cookie and does not give up easily. She is a fighter, that much has been made clear. Anytime you hold her hand she will squeeze it tight and she will at times nod in response to questions.  We are praying for her recovery despite the fact that we know it will be long and difficult. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting our page, check back here for regular updates.
