In March 2022 Mel was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colorectal Cancer. She began her treatment in late March which will include 4 months of Chemo every other week, followed by a daily chemo/radiation treatment for 5.5 weeks. After her initial treatment, Mel's medical team will determine next steps such as additional treatment or surgery.
Mel's treatment will be conducted at Hood River Memorial Hospital and Celilo Cancer Center in The Dalles. She has an incredible surgeon who's a leader in her field based at Providence in Portland and has been receiving excellent care from her team.
As treatment gets started, Mel plans to continue working while taking breaks when needed and squeezing in an adventure with Tom, Ally, Margret and the dogs when possible. Time in the garden, enjoying their beautiful flowers, berries and veggies is also high on the list of spring/summer activities.
This site has been built in an effort to keep Mel's friend's and family up to date on how she's doing and most importantly, on how they can support her and her family during this time. Please visit "ways to help" which will list various ways to support the Toney/Scully crew while they navigate the next 5-6 months of treatment. Please note that the Meal Train site will also list opportunities to help with dog walks and house chores.
