On Saturday October 7th Melissa woke up with pain in her left hip. By Monday the 9th it was bad enough to go to the doctor, she was diagnosed with bursitis and given anti inflammatory medication. By Wednesday the pain had gotten worse so she went back to the doctor and was prescribed  pain meds. These made her nauseous so she returned to the doctor on Friday the 13th. At that point they took blood to see what was causing the problem. Saturday AM she got a call from the doctor who told her that her hemoglobin count was very low - 4.8 - and that she needed to go to the ER. Immediately.  She went to Chester County hospital and there they first mentioned the word Leukemia. They sent her to U Penn that evening and that’s how we got to this point. Melissa was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on October 18th, 2017.  She's being treated at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia,  PA.
