We are using this website to keep Melinda’s friends and family updated in one place. Last Wednesday, March 3rd , Melinda was taken to the hospital after experiencing severe pain in her chest and neck. The doctors determined she was experiencing an aortic dissection, which is when the aorta tears, and needed emergency open heart surgery to repair it. The surgery took about 7 hours. She came out of surgery well and her doctor was very optimistic and satisfied with how surgery went. The doctors believe that she has had this condition since she was much younger and it had weakened over time. On Friday, she was able to stand up and was aware of what had happened. She has spent the last few days very sedated as they manage her pain and medications.
Patrick and the boys have everything they need and the meal train is up and running. We will keep folks posted here. They are grateful for the support and encouragement they are receiving from everyone.
She is unable to receive visitors due to COVID-19 restrictions. Patrick is able to spend a few hours with her every day. Here is the hospital Information for those of you asking. She should be able to receive notes, flowers, etc. once she is in her new room (we will let you know). Patrick and I will provide updates on her condition as much as possible.
Admitted as MARY LEWIS – it will be a challenge to try to find her under Melinda
