Megan has had some intermittent pain in her knee for about 2 months.  We went to Twin Cities Orthopedic center in September.  They did an X-ray of her hip, since many times the pain radiates down to knees with pediatric patients. We began PT to strengthen her leg.   She complained only occasionally but nothing consistent of "knee pain".  She played basketball, swam, biked, and was simply our happy little Megan.  We had a follow up appointment at TCO on Monday October 29th.  Since the PT wasn't working an MRI was scheduled for Tuesday morning, October 30th.   Three hours after that MRI our world was shaken.    Dr. Lundberg at TCO said there is a "lesion on her femur bone, it's not good, it's a tumor.  The University of Minnesota will be in contact soon to schedule an appointment."  One hour later we had an appointment scheduled for first thing Wednesday morning.  Our Orthopedic surgeon at the U, Dr. Christian Ogilvie, who specializes in pediatric Cancer and Orthopedics. We were told that the imagining mirrors Osteosarcoma, a bone cancer.  A biopsy was taken Thurdsay morning.  She has some swelling and discomfort from the biopsy but overall is doing quite well!  We hope to have the pathology reports by the end of next week and begin our treatment plan.

Michael and Maddie learned that Megan has a tumor around her knee and that it's most likely cancer.  Many scary questions were asked and a parents worst nightmare was playing out in our living room.  We all sobbed and held each other for what seemed like an eternity.  We are holding out hope that it's just a benign tumor that will be removed.  We are prepared, with the support of our amazing family and friends, to fight this cancer with ALL OUR MIGHT!

We've often said, "It takes a village" and we are now calling on our "village" to pray that the tumor is benign. Pray for our Doctors steady hand and expertise to guide us down this daunting road.  Pray for Maddie, Michael, Matt and I to have the courage to fight like hell with and for Megan!  Prayers are powerful.... and we are strong!

Many of have asked about the GoFundMe site that our dear friends set up for us to cover some of our expenses while we each take work leaves to care for Megan.  It can be found here:

With gratitude-Andrea and Matt
